Mark Rohde of Davis Calibration Named to SmartCEO’s Smart 100

--Attributes success to leadership skills, connection to people, not industry-specific knowledge--

October 21, 2009—BALTIMORE—Davis Calibration (DavisCalibration.com), a world leader in the calibration of test, measurement and control instrumentation, announced today that its President and CEO Mark Rohde has been selected to SmartCEO's 2009 Baltimore Smart 100. The Smart100 is an exclusive group of 100 CEOs assembled by an independent selection committee. Unlike most programs, the Smart100 is not chosen based on the growth of the organization. A Smart100 CEO is selected for his or her Leadership, Strategic Vision and Character.

Rohde, an effective leader throughout his career, said that his success comes more from his leadership skills and ability to connect with clients and employees as the means to achieve significant results, than it does from knowledge of a specific industry. That strategy has paid off. Since joining Davis Calibration in the summer of 2007, he has lead the company to two (2) years of growth in a challenging economic environment.

In his career, Rohde has held leadership roles for large publicly traded corporations, such as AT&T, Martin Marietta and Convergys before settling into a real comfort size over the past 10 years with smaller privately held companies with significant growth ambitions.

"I’m more dependent on the employees because I don’t know [everything]," Rohde said. "Perpetual learning keeps you humble and passionate." Rohde is becoming an expert on calibration, which he defines as "making sure things are working as they should be," but it is his staff that makes doing the job possible.
